PEET'S COFFEE EYES CHICAGO FOR NEW STORES

Peet's Coffee & Tea Inc. said it has plans to open 20 new stores in Chicago this year as part of its expansion. The Emeryville, Calif.-based coffee chain opened its first shop in Washington, D.C. near the White House this week and has plans for 23 more, mostly in spaces it picked up from Caribou Coffee last year. At the time, Caribou said it would close most of its 18 Chicago locations, half of which would rebrand as Peet's. Illinois was Caribou's second-largest market with 66 stores. Minneapolis-based Caribou was taken private in 2013 by JAB in a $340 million deal.
