BEARS LINEBACKER JON BOSTIC

Bostic caught the attention of Bears fans when he returned an interception 51 yards for a touchdown in the first exhibition, but he sent a warning to upcoming opponents last week: Be careful coming across the middle. The NFL came down on Bostic with a $21,000 fine, deeming it was a hit against a defenseless receiver for lowering his head to make forcible contact with the crown or forehead of his helmet. That’s what the rulebook says. “I’m just finding out about it,” Bostic said. “I’m just waiting to see what happens. The older guys said they are going to help me through it and to just keep playing how I’m playing.” Coaches told Bostic it was a good play and coach Marc Trestman, while acknowledging it was a violent play, said he didn’t see anything wrong with it.
