DRAKE RESPONDS TO KENDRICK LAMAR VERSE
The Young Money wordsmith went on to describe Kendrick’s verse as “an ambitious thought” and expressed his belief that the TDE rapper didn’t outdo him in any way.
"I didn't really have anything to say about it. It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me,” Drake revealed. “That's all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic."

CITY ANNOUNCES 50 SPEEDING CAMERA LOCATIONS
The Chicago Department of Transportation announced the 50 school and park zones where cameras will monitor speeding motorists Friday. Technically, CDOT announced the other 38, since they announced the first 12 locations earlier this month and cameras are being tested at Gompers, Garfield, Marquette and Washington Parks. CDOT Commissioner Gabe Klein made the usual statements about how “The Children’s Safety Zone Program protects children and other pedestrians by reminding motorists to slow down and obey speed laws - particularly in school and park zones.” Revenue generated from the program will be invested in safety initiatives including afterschool programs, anti-violence and jobs programs; crossing guards and police officers around schools; and infrastructure improvements, such as signs, crosswalk markings and other traffic safety improvements. That's a lot of money for "Safe Passage" signs. The Sun-Times broke down the locations and found the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood will be home to five by year end. This will balance out as more locations receive cameras. For now, slow down on the Northwest Side. Once the cameras are set up and tested a 30-day grace period will go into effect where motorists will be issued warnings if they're caught driving above the speed limit. After that, fines will be issued.

KENDRICK LAMAR SPEAKS
Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar may have approached his verse on Big Sean’s “Control” like any of the other guest verses he’s appeared on, but his addition to the No I.D.-produced song morphed into something more than a standard guest feature. Despite receiving “all love” from New York heavyweights including Jay Z and Diddy, Kendrick further clarified his “king of New York” mention on “Control,” stating that he was merely trying to convey how “hungry” of an artist he is.Lastly, Kendrick offered his thoughts on the artists he feels had the best “Control” responses. Among them were Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, King Los, and Kevin Hart’s rap persona, Chocolate Drop. “I liked the [King] Los verse,” Kendrick revealed. “Joe Budden did this thing, Joell; a lot of people with different approaches…Joey had the facts in his verse, a few things that he felt. Papoose had the comical joint. Los was flipping his words and putting that spunk on it. I think he had the killer thing though. Yeah, Los killed it out of everybody. But the number one joint at the top of the list had to be Chocolate Drop.”

LINCOLN PARK HOME LOOKS SPECTACULAR (INSIDE LOOK)
On the outside are a pleasant front terrace, and another, larger one, two floors up off the master bedroom. There's a big rooftop deck, as well as a rear terrace off the kitchen. The same is true inside, where you start on the living floor, go up a few steps to the kitchen level, continue climbing to a level that has two bedrooms—one of them open, like a loft space—and then up one more level to the master suite. From every one of those levels there are nice views out into the surrounding Lincoln Park neighborhood. That’s from the back of the house, the front of the house, and even along one long, exposed side of the house. The scene outside the wall of windows there can’t change very much, because the tiny parking lot immediately next door is too small to build on.

P.RICO "WELCOME TO PUERTO RICO"
SAD FATE FOR R.KELLY'S MANSION
Back in the 1990s, when the putative King of R&B R. Kelly was still riding high on hits like "I Believe I Can Fly" and when his legal troubles mostly lay in the future, he bought himself a $1.5 million mansion in the Chicago suburb of Olympia Fields -- not to live in it, but to tear it down and build a new one. The bizarre fate of that custom-built mansion, now badly rundown and bank-owned, in some ways holds up a cracked mirror to Kelly's own fortunes. Once reportedly valued at more than $5 million, the home is now bank-owned -- and the price recently dropped to a staggeringly paltry $587,100

JOHNNY MANZIEL SUSPENDED
Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel of No. 7 Texas A&M has been suspended for the first half of Saturday's season opener against the Rice Owls, A&M and the NCAA announced Wednesday in a joint statement. Earlier this month, ESPN reported that the NCAA was looking into whether Manziel was paid for signing autographs at several locations, including in South Florida around the BCS National Championship game. Also, ESPN reported that a set of autograph dealers claimed that Manziel accepted payments to sign more than 4,000 items, including footballs and photographs, at an event in Connecticut in late January. NCAA investigators spent a large chunk of Sunday with Manziel, questioning him about allegations from memorabilia dealers that he accepted payments for autographs, a source familiar with the investigation told ESPN.com on Monday night. The NCAA said it accepted information submitted by A&M. That information said Manziel did not accept payment for signing autographs.

CTA BUS DRIVER CAUGHT EATING WHILE DRIVING ON CAMERA
A CTA bus driver whose hands should have been on the wheel instead had a cup in one hand and a spoon in the other. A concerned passenger videotaped him eating an ice cream sundae while driving. On a hot, sunny day, your CTA bus pulling up is a welcome sight. But not when the bus driver is eating and driving and then stretching out at a stop light before continuing to drive with only one hand on the wheel. Risa Lopez captured the images on her iPad last Tuesday afternoon. “The bus was jerking back and forth like hard brake, go a little bit. Hard brake, go a little bit,” said Lopez. Lopez says she peeked around to see what was going on. “I saw him eating a McDonald’s strawberry sundae, while he was driving,” said Lopez. “I said let me go ahead and record this because nobody is going to believe this.”

HANDCUFFED MAN STEALS CHICAGO POLICE CAR
A West side man was sitting in a Chicago Police vehicle after being arrested on an outstanding warrant didn’t let handcuffs stop him from stealing the squad car in an attempt to elude police. Marquette Fisher was stopped by police Friday for failing to stop at a stop sign when police discovered he was driving on a suspended license and had two warrants out for his arrest. As police were speaking with passengers in the van Fisher was driving they saw Fisher in the front of the car, his cuffed hands in front of his body, behind the wheel of the car. Police tried to stop Fisher from driving away with their car, but he managed to put it in gear and drive away. Fisher was stopped a few blocks away, but managed to evade police on foot and wasn’t apprehended until 6:20 p.m. at his home in the 1400 block of South Cicero Avenue.

"I HAVE A DREAM SPEECH" 50 YEARS LATER
The day was August 24, 1963. Countless numbers of people, ranging from all different skin shades from all over the world were headed to Washington, D.C. for one of the most momentous events since America’s founding. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a march in the nation’s capitol to deliver a strong message to the flawed, biased American government. Reciting his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. King’s message of equality for all resonated from his microphone, through the audience, to the government of the United States and buried itself into the hearts and minds of millions of American people, as well as people around the world. The individuals that marched with Dr. King on this day were unaware that they would be a part of history, as they were just focused on amending their present. With Jim Crow running rampant in America, especially the south, these people decided to take a stand, along with Dr. King, to make their voices heard to a government that often put them on mute.
Fifty years later on August 24, 2013, minorities are still fighting for this same respect. Many speakers were present for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, including Al Sharpton, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. III, Sybrina Fulton and more. And once again, people from all creeds were there, continuing to fight the battle that Dr. King began all those years ago.

RESTAURANT KICKS OUT 25 BLACK PEOPLE
A restaurant in South Carolina forgot that it was 2013…clearly. Last month, Michael Brown and 24 of his family members were visiting Wild Wing Cafe when they were suddenly told to leave. Why? Because a white woman nearby felt threatened by their large party. And no, that’s not a joke.
According to the Huffington Post:
When one of Brown’s companions started filming the exchange, the shift manager is said to have told the group to leave.“[That] totally alarmed all of us because we’re sitting there peaceably for two hours,” Brown told the news outlet.

RAPPER CURREN$Y SHARES HIS LOVE FOR CHICAGO
NEW CHAPTER OF CPS HISTORY
A new chapter in Chicago Public School history begins Monday, as thousands of kids will begin classes at schools they’ve never attended. On Sunday, many of them celebrated. CBS 2′s Derrick Blakley spent the day with families preparing for the first day of classes. At Cain’s Barber College, all the buzz was about back to school with free haircuts for boys and free hairdos for girls, boosting esteem and hopefully their grades. “Children tend not to go to school on the first day due to personal hygiene issues, whether its haircut, having the proper clothing and school supplies,” said Bamani Obadele of the Greater Roseland Community Committee.

GRAND THEFT AUTO FIVE SOUNDTRACK
Grand Theft Auto V is but a short few weeks away. Let’s get excited about the soundtrack, which, as per Rockstar tradition, looks good as always. IGN reported the leaked list over the weekend. And, being that the game is set in a fictional LA, all of that west coast rap you love will be there – names like Tupac, N.W.A. and Kendrick Lamar populate the list, along with some more left field choices like Johnny Cash, Brittney Spears and Outkast. The still developing, unconfirmed tracklist can be seen below. For two extras, A$AP Rocky recorded a brand-new track for the game. The song doesn’t have a proper title and doesn’t look to be included yet, but certainly sounds the part of a Rocky track. Also, a leaked Piswasser Beer commercial hit the web and it’s absolutely 100% worth the listen because the lyrics to the jingle are nothing short of hilarious. All-in-all, looks like another win for Rockstar.

Violence broke out Tuesday, Aug. 20 during a scheduled Lil’ Durk concert performance at Skully’s Music Diner & Bar in Columbus, OH. Footage surfaced online showing Lil’ Durk, born Durk D. Banks, attempting to diffuse a crowd situation, repeatedly telling patrons to “chill” and to instead enjoy themselves and “turn up.” The hostility in the crowd heightened and Durk was subsequently assaulted after being hit with a barstool. Gunshots can later be heard going off. The “Dis Ain’t What You Want” rapper was in town for a performance set up by WRMG and Chi City event management team.
BEARS LINEBACKER JON BOSTIC
Bostic caught the attention of Bears fans when he returned an interception 51 yards for a touchdown in the first exhibition, but he sent a warning to upcoming opponents last week: Be careful coming across the middle. The NFL came down on Bostic with a $21,000 fine, deeming it was a hit against a defenseless receiver for lowering his head to make forcible contact with the crown or forehead of his helmet. That’s what the rulebook says. “I’m just finding out about it,” Bostic said. “I’m just waiting to see what happens. The older guys said they are going to help me through it and to just keep playing how I’m playing.” Coaches told Bostic it was a good play and coach Marc Trestman, while acknowledging it was a violent play, said he didn’t see anything wrong with it.

CHI RAQ DOCUMENTARY EXTENDED LOOK
Director Will Robson-Scott and Protein TV have teamed to present Chi Raq – a short documentary that delivers a decisive blow with an intimate and slightly graphic look at the youth driven violence plaguing the Chicago area. The film places a microscope on the unrest affecting families residing on Chicago’s South and West sides. Though responsibility for a homicide rate comparable to that of an Afghan war zone may rest with some neighborhoods more than others, the larger issue seems to be the popularity of gunplay across the city – a phenomenon that has taken the idea of playing with fire from dangerous novelty to brazen bloodsport. The kids featured in the documentary – all of whom seem much older than their physical ages – are particularly adept at bringing the gravity of the situation home. The city’s history of violence has combined with decades of gang culture, bleak socio-economic conditions, lack of recreational outlets and provocative lyrics to create a hotbed of crime dominated by life-threatening activity.

THE BOY ILLINOIS "JEAN BAPTISTE" MIXTAPE
CHANCE THE RAPPER MIXTAPE BOOTLEGED AND HITS BILLBOARD
Last month local hip-hop phenom Chance the Rapper landed on the Billboard charts with his Acid Rap mixtape, which he released for free in April; a "label" called MTC sold 1,000 units, and it landed on Heatseekers at 26 and the R&B/hip-hop chart at 63. MTC's Acid Rap CD is unlicensed, but as Billboard recently explained, Chance faces an uphill battle fighting bootleggers because he remains unsigned: Since Chance doesn't have a record deal, he doesn't enjoy the protection of the RIAA. But his mixtapes have generated considerable buzz on the Internet and in the press, enough for a third-party company to see value in manufacturing physical copies and offering them for sale. The other big roadblock for Chance's camp is the shortage of available info about MTC, other than the fact that its releases are distributed by Houston company 1-Stop Distribution; it's through 1-Stop that the Acid Rap bootleg is available through Amazon and, as I noticed over the weekend, Logan Hardware. "I thought it was on a major label or something," says Logan Hardware co-owner John Ciba. According to Ciba, customers ask for Acid Rap regularly, so he didn't consider the possibility that it was unlicensed when he found it in 1-Stop's catalog. "I ordered it because it was just in a catalog," he says.
