CHRIS COLLINS TO BE NAMED NORTHWESTERN BASKETBALL HEAD COACH

Hiring Collins, a former Illinois Mr. Basketball from Northbrook, would be considered a coup for NU athletic director Jim Phillips, who wants to put his stamp on the basketball program. CBSSports.com, citing unnamed sources, reported Wednesday that Collins had agreed to take the job. ESPN.com reported that an announcement could come Wednesday but that no news conference would happen until after Duke was done playing in the NCAA tournament. Asked about the reports Wednesday, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told reporters: "I hope that's what it turns out to be. It's not a done deal. When it is, I'll comment on it."
