MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER OF 5 MONTH OLD ZION BABY

Zion Police charged a 26-year-old man Saturday with the murder of a 5-month old baby who was at the center of of a town-wide search in the northern suburb this week. Demetries Thorpe has been held on $5 million bond in the disappearance of Joshua Summeries, who was reported missing Wednesday morning. Over 200 Zion police officers searched for the baby, including a dramatic search of a landfill Friday. According to the Sun-Times, authorities allege Thorpe placed his hand over Joshua's mouth because he was crying. The baby stopped breathing shortly after and Thorpe then placed the baby into a backpack, which was dropped into a dumpster. Authorities say they have surveillance camera footage of Thorpe discarding of Joshua. Thorpe, the boyfriend of Joshua's mother, allegedly told her he saw someone reach through a window and grab the baby. When pressed for details by authorities, Thorpe allegedly stopped talking an ran.
