Every day matters. 4. Return every phone call. 5. Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do. 6. To get what you want, you must do things you don't want to do. 7. Know what you don't know. 8. Respect the commodity of persistence. 9. The more successful you become, the more humble you should be. 10. Hiring Collins, a former Illinois Mr. Basketball from Northbrook, would be considered a coup for NU athletic director Jim Phillips, who wants to put his stamp on the basketball program. CBSSports.com, citing unnamed sources, reported Wednesday that Collins had agreed to take the job. ESPN.com reported that an announcement could come Wednesday but that no news conference would happen until after Duke was done playing in the NCAA tournament. Asked about the reports Wednesday, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told reporters: "I hope that's what it turns out to be. It's not a done deal. When it is, I'll comment on it."

Kanye's upcoming album continues to have people talking, and the newest rumor is that the title is going to be "I am God." The news of the possible album title was reported by BBC, who add that the title is meant to be "tongue-in-cheek." It was also previously reported that the album would be titled "Rich Black American" and "Black American Psycho," but judging by Kanye's secrecy on past projects it's likely no one will know the title until it's ready to drop.

"Gold Digger" became one of Yeezy's biggest hits to date, but would the Jamie Foxx-assisted "Late Registration" jam topped the Hot 100 if it had been recorded by Chicago rapstress Shawnna? After she passed on the beat, West rewrote the hook to accommodate a male perspective, and struck, er, gold. West originally created 'Gold Digger' for hip-hop hopeful Shawnna's solo debut, but she rejected it. West reworked the lyrics for himself and then took 'Gold' platinum. Meanwhile, the only precious metal Shawnna's been rocking lately is her tin ear.

Chicago's hip-hop scene had a banner year last year. As one of America's most segregated metropolises, the city underwent a renaissance in 2012 at basically every level. Chief Keef gained much of the initial attention, and he came from an entire scene that was flourishing, but Chicago—split by geography, race, economics, gangs and even tiered school systems—has a number of thriving hip-hop movements. One of the most successful was that of Chance the Rapper, an especially skilled technician with a wide variety of influences, a sixth sense for melody and craft, and impeccable stage presence. While not traditionally considered a live music mecca like Austin or New Orleans, Chicago's concert scene is a thriving one, with the city having produced some of the biggest names in music these days. Not only are hip-hop superstars Kanye West, R. Kelly, and Lupe Fiasco from Chicago, but the Windy City has also generated bands such as Wilco, Fall Out Boy, and acclaimed solo artist Andrew Bird. The key to any live music scene is knowing where to go, especially with so many options to see concerts in Chicago. Now, there are two issues here. The first is that Chimpmania.com is so racist that they have an open forum where their community can feel free to use the term "n*ggers," and also that they think there's nothing wrong with using the sentence "fled like cockroaches" [well, actually they use the term 'coachroaches,' so we can see how intelligent these people really are] and the second issue is that this link even comes up in a Google search. We know there are a lot of crazy, racist people out there and they love to use the internet as their playground, but how about a little censorship. THANKS FOR THE GREAT YEARS AT A TOUGH POSITION! The Chicago Bears are moving forward without Brian Urlacher after both sides were unable to reach an agreement on a free-agent deal, the team announced Wednesday. "We were unable to reach an agreement with Brian and both sides have decided to move forward," Bears general manager Phil Emery said in a statement. "
For generations, sandwiches were the ultimate guilty pleasure of subcultures that had no patience for guilt: hungry bachelors, school kids, working stiffs, old men in delis. To fridge-foraging rubes like Dagwood, quality wasn’t half as important as quantity. The sandwich was one of the only snacks you were allowed to pile as high as you wanted with anything you desired and cram into your face with both hands. Pictured is the #1 sandwich the old oak blt. The B is applewood smoked—nice and snappy. The L is arugula—fresh and peppery. The T is a fried green slice—jacketed in cornmeal and greaseless. Slathered with pimiento cheese, the grilled ciabatta somehow stays crisp, providing three distinct layers of crunch. Truly inspired. Singer R. Kelly's foreclosed Olympia Fields home hit the auction block Monday -- but reportedly remains in the bank's hands. The Grammy-winning R&B artist's 22,140-square-foot mansion in south suburban Chicago was valued at as much as $5.2 million in 2009 and was appraised at $3.8 million in July 2011. But, on Monday, the home was up for grabs at an opening bid of $950,000, as set by the mortgage-holding J.P. Morgan Chase, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Dr. Seuss may have some crazy rhymes and guys drawn in his books, but if you look at the core of his thoughts and words, the man was brilliant. He can even teach us some nice lessons in regards to social media. 1. "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." Authenticity and transparency in social media are the "green" in the green eggs and ham. I like realness, Sam I am! Don't be a different person offline than you are on Twitter and Facebook. 2. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter!" Stop worrying about what everyone thinks of you. Build your plan, work it and get out there. Yes, you will need to manage your brand, reputation and online image, but make it real. 3. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Did you get laid off or fired from the corporate world, or did you just plain quit? If you're out of a job, quit crying. It's a blessing. Get on with your life and build a new one in your own way. 4. "You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." You're in love with the Twitter bird and you know it. If you're dreaming of him, it's a fact. 5. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go." Isn't this the truth? Take charge of your life. Go, people, go! Think of the communities you can build, the business you can win and the people you can connect with if you only try. Quit following in your competitors' footsteps. Forge your own path and make things happen. 6. "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple." This one makes me think of how complicated we make social media. Think newbie questions like, "What's a retweet?" and "What's a 'tweet' as opposed a 'twit?'" The list goes on. The best advice I give people is to just do it. The answers are simple if you only engage. 7. "A person's a person, no matter how small." Just because you have tens of thousands of followers on Twitter doesn't mean you're any better than the new guy who only has eight. You were there once, too. That person is a person, and probably smarter than you. 8. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Listen and learn. Read, engage, watch your mentors and learn from them. You'll soon learn and build your own track. 9. "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love." I love this one. It reminds me of all the awesome people I've met on Twitter. I love my Twitter buddies. I've met people from around the world, and we all have a bit of quirky weirdness. Be quirky and you'll find others who are quirky, too. 10. "Being crazy isn't enough." Yes, have humor, but you need to add value. Inspire, educate and engage with your audience. Don't approach social media like a bird out of the crazy cage. You may be excited you learned how to tweet, but put some sense into those 140 characters. 11. "From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!" Social media is filled with humor. Just look around. Do a Twitter search for the term "get more followers" and see just how many funny crazies there are who think they are making progress by spamming. Embrace the humor of social media folks. 12. "I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent!" Stick to your words and make your words stick. 13. "Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!" Think bigger than a tweet, faster than a zoom, and what you can do if you reached for the moon! Be different. Be bold. Stand out from the crowd. 14. "In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!" This one reminds me of the people who think social media is free, and that social media alone will save their businesses. Get over it, folks. Social media is far from free. It doesn't enable you to eat rainbows, and it sure as heck does not poop butterflies. It poops a bad return on investment and negative brand equity if you don't manage it and plan. 15. "How did it get so late so soon?" This happens to me every night on Twitter. I'll just get into it when I pass out on the laptop. If only there were more hours in the day. Time flies when you're having fun!

Rashod “Fat Man” Bethany was only 21 when he was busted in a federal drug case in 2006. Young as he was, no one had a more fearsome reputation in his Far South Side neighborhood. Bethany ran two drug houses that sold crack 24/7, 365 days a year, and he and his thugs, who dubbed themselves “The Killing Crew,” ruthlessly enforced a no-snitching code that kept witnesses from talking to the police. And it’s one reason why federal prosecutors are now seeking a 30-year sentence — the maximum — for Bethany. Having set a state record a year ago by winning their sixth state championship, the heavily-favored Wolverines tied another Saturday night by claiming their seventh with a 58-40 win over Lincolnshire Stevenson in the Class 4A state final at Carver Arena. And while it did not displace first-time five-time champ Manual this time around, Simeon (30-3) did match the Rams’ record of four consecutive state championship victories with their sixth title in eight seasons.
