BLACKHAWKS PARADE GIVES CTA 2ND HIGHEST RIDERSHIP IN 12 YEARS

The CTA is celebrating a win thanks to the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup. The day of the Blackhawks parade downtown, June 28, was the second-highest CTA rail ridership day in the last 12 years, according to a June ridership report the CTA released this week. There were 717,146 rail entries, which is about 151,000 more entries than on a typical day, the CTA said. The city said more than 2 million people attended the parade. The highest rail ridership day of the last dozen years is July 3, 2008, with 752,000 entries for the city's July 4 fireworks. The 2013 parade had 27,000 more rail entries than June 11, 2010, the day of the 2010 Stanley Cup parade, the CTA said. That is the fourth highest rail ridership day. Meanwhile, CTA ridership continued to decline in June. Ridership is down 2.4 percent systemwide versus the first six months of 2012. Bus ridership is down 2.9 percent while rail ridership is down 1.8 percent.
