SPORTS: SIMEON WINS 15/16 CHICAGO PUBLIC LEAGUE BASKETBALL TITLE

South Side Kenwood Academy (19-4) played in the Chicago Public League's title game for the first time in school history when they faced South Side powerhouse Simeon (24-3) at Chicago State University in front of 6,000+ fans (hugely Kenwood supporters).
Winning his first varsity city title of his career 54-49, Simeon senior and leading-scorer Zachary Norvell (Gonzaga) finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. He led every aspect of Simeon's first 3 quarters of the game. Feisty 5'10 junior point guard Evan Gilyard scored 14 of his 16 points in the 4th quarter including 9 straight at one point. Breakout versatile sophomore reserve Talen Horton-Tucker added 5 points, 7 rebounds.
Kenwood was led by unsigned seniors Zion Morgan, (15 points, 4 rebounds) and Nick Robinson (13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks). If Simeon's 7th Public league title on Sunday wasn't impressive already, it came on the heels of beating #1 Morgan Park on Friday and #6 Evanston on Saturday. Thanks to everyone at Chicago State University, CPS, Simeon, and Kenwood for a memorable season of Public League basketball. Next, Kenwood and Simeon will both be trying to win the Class 4A Illinois state title.
