NEWS: CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY REMAINS WITHOUT FUNDING SENDS LAYOFF NOTICES
Chicago State University sent layoff notices to all faculty, staff and administrators Friday, a drastic move as the school fights to remain open without funding from the state of Illinois.
The historically black school is among 57 public universities and colleges in Illinois that have not received funding in eight months as Republican Governor Bruce Rauner and the Democratic-controlled general assembly fail to agree on a budget. Nearly a third of Chicago State’s funding, about $36 million a year, comes from state appropriations.
CHICAGO UNSIGNED HYPE INTERVIEW W/ "BILLS"
Chicago EST.1837 recently caught up with young rising Hip Hop artist & songwriter "Bills"
1. Can you introduce yourself to the people?
Its Ya boy Bills. Member of D.O.E
2. When did you decide to make a career of music, and what inspired that?
Probably within the last 3 years I've started taking it more serious. I mean before it was just a hobby. I've been writing and recording since a teen and it was just a way of expressing myself and having fun. But after years of honing my skills, I feel like I'm ready for the next level where I can touch peoples minds, hearts, and souls. I don't think I was ready during my earlier years. As I mature so does my music and practice makes perfect. I feel like I'm at the point where I'm ready mentally and musically.
3. Whats been the most memorable moment of your grind thus far?
The most memorable moment I would have to say would be my very first show. It was at Reggie's Rock Club. At the time my homie Y- Milli who I rap with, was in the army so I was solo. I had a 10 minute set. 3 songs. I was nervous as can be! I had a shot of liquor to take the edge off. The Dj called me up. Told me I had 2 minutes until I went on. quickest 2 minutes in my life! So I went out on stage introduced myself and the song then as soon as the song dropped I messed up the lyrics! I mean nobody noticed because nobody knew the song lol but I kept going and rocked the stage! Got a great applause from the crowd! That's when I knew this is what I wanted to do with my life!
4. How do you deal with writers-block?
The way I deal with writers-block is life. Anything that's going on or happening in my life or others around me life I use that as motivation. For example my song 100 percent. The second verse I drew a blank on. I had no idea what I was going to write about but the very next day my mother n law broke the news to us that her doctors found cancer in her breast. I was driving at the time she told me. I shed a few tears and by the time I got to work I knew what my second verse would focus on and I wrote it that very night.
5. Dead Or alive if you could feature with one artist, who & why?
I would actually say two artist. Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. Both are musical genius to me. They make music they love and music that comes from the soul which is something I respect and admire.
6. What are you currently promoting or working on?
Currently I am Promoting my new song 100 Percent. Which I will be shooting a video for in the coming months so be on the look out for that. I'm always writing though and I always have new songs but I've learned that quality beats quantity any day.
7. Where do you see yourself the next 3-5 years?
I see myself making a living off of something I love doing. Which is music. Someone said that if you have a job doing what you love, you'll never work a day in your life and that's where I envision myself.

South Side Kenwood Academy (19-4) played in the Chicago Public League's title game for the first time in school history when they faced South Side powerhouse Simeon (24-3) at Chicago State University in front of 6,000+ fans (hugely Kenwood supporters).
Winning his first varsity city title of his career 54-49, Simeon senior and leading-scorer Zachary Norvell (Gonzaga) finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. He led every aspect of Simeon's first 3 quarters of the game. Feisty 5'10 junior point guard Evan Gilyard scored 14 of his 16 points in the 4th quarter including 9 straight at one point. Breakout versatile sophomore reserve Talen Horton-Tucker added 5 points, 7 rebounds.
Kenwood was led by unsigned seniors Zion Morgan, (15 points, 4 rebounds) and Nick Robinson (13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks). If Simeon's 7th Public league title on Sunday wasn't impressive already, it came on the heels of beating #1 Morgan Park on Friday and #6 Evanston on Saturday. Thanks to everyone at Chicago State University, CPS, Simeon, and Kenwood for a memorable season of Public League basketball. Next, Kenwood and Simeon will both be trying to win the Class 4A Illinois state title.

SPORTS: BULLS ALL STAR JIMMY BUTLER OUT AT LEAST 3-4 WEEKS
Bulls All-Star Jimmy Butler will be out three to four weeks with a strained left knee, the team announced via press release. The ailment has forced Butler to miss Chicago’s last two games. The Bulls are already without Joakim Noah, who’s out for the season, and Nikola Mirotic, who’s reportedly set to return after the All-Star break, but they don’t have quite enough of an injury issue to qualify for a 16th roster spot via hardship.
Butler, fresh off re-signing with Chicago on a five-year, $92.34MM deal, is the team’s leading scorer by a wide margin at 22.4 points per game, though Derrick Rose, third in scoring on the team at 15.9 points a night, takes nearly as many shots. Regardless, the loss of Butler is a significant blow to the Bulls, who’ve lost five of six games to fall to seventh place in the Eastern Conference, just a game and a half up on the ninth-place Hornets in the race for the postseason.

UNSIGNED HYPE INTERVIEW W/ RAY GOTTIE DON DOTTA
Chicago Est.1837 Recently Caught Up With Rising Hype "Ray Gottie"
1. Can you introduce yourself to the people?
Yeah what's up my name is Ray Gottie Don dotta.
2. When did you decide to make a career of music, and what inspired that?
I've been writing and producing music since I was 13 years old. I've honestly been inspired from a number of different things. My biggest inspiration came from family, my older cousin used to be a preteen rapper and at the age of 13 she won the biggest local talent competition in thr city and even went on to perform at the Detroit Pistons game during Half Time. At such a young age that had a big influence on my decision to take music seriously.
3. Whats been the most memorable moment of your grind thus far?
Oh man that's a hard question... Honestly the most memorable part of my grind would have to be when I went to SXSW. I've opened up for artist before... Major and not so major. I've done shows in different cities and States but SXSW was one of the biggest music experiences I have ever witnessed. Not only were there Major hip hop moguls but music moguls of all genres all in one city linking up, networking, and performing all in one spot. It was amazing.
4. How do you deal with writers-block?
I usually just listen to music from different genres listen to some of my old music or get on one of my social media outlets( facebook Instagram or Twitter) check all of my notifications and talk to some people who actually enjoy my music.
5. Dead Or alive if you could feature with one artist, who & why?
Honestly I'm really into the producers more then artist nowadays. Don't get me wrong I would love a feature with Notorious b.i.g Gucci future Wayne Drake or whatever but one feature doesn't give you longevity and I'm really into that. I believe that having multiple key producers to help create and modify your sound would definitely help keep music relevant so I would have to say 808 mafia.
6. What are you currently promoting or working on?
I'm currently working on multiple different projects 3 of them are already finished im just getting the campaign together for them. In the mean time you can check out my latest singles on my soundcloud.
7. Where do you see yourself the next 3-5 years?
In the next three to five years if I'm not im not a moderately or majorly successful artist in the industry I can see myself becoming a engineer/producer a manager or someone that has some type of major role in industry. Cant let all of this knowledge go to waste ya know?
