NEWS: CAMERAS TO BE ALLOWED IN "SOME" COOK COUNTY COURTHOUSES

Media cameras will be allowed in some Cook County criminal courtrooms as part of a pilot program beginning in January, the Illinois Supreme Court has decided. Effective Jan. 5, the media will be allowed to video and audio record proceedings at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 26th and California.
A request for cameras at a hearing or trial must be initiated by the media through a media coordinator at least 14 days in advance, according to a statement from the high court. The trial judge will then decide whether or not to allow extended coverage of a proceeding.
Cameras will be prohibited in cases of sexual abuse without the alleged victim's consent, as well as juvenile, divorce, adoption, child custody, evidence suppression and trade secret cases.
