GENERAL MOTORS NAMES FIRST FEMALE LEADER
Barra, 51, who's currently General Motors' head of global product development, will be the company's first female CEO.
Never before has a woman held the top job at a major automaker. The car business traditionally is as overreliant on testosterone as it is on fossil fuels. For that matter, fewer than two dozen Fortune 500 corporations are led by women. That list is topped by Meg Whitman, of Hewlett-Packard Co., No. 15 in Fortune's rankings. GM checks in at No. 7.
