THIS DAY IN HIP HOP

WE HIGHLIGHT A SPECIAL MOMENT IN THE HIP HOP CULTURE. THIS IS TODAY'S....
FEB.19TH 1991
Young Black Teenagers release their Self-Entitled debut album on S.O.U.L. Records on this day in 1991. The group, which was a concept of Hank Shocklee, were five white teens who called themselves Young Black Teenagers or Y.B.T. for short. The album would feature production by The Bomb Squad and the group’s DJ Skribble. Their debut set produced the hit “Loud & Hard To Hit”. The album cover was a parody of The Beatles’ 1963 debut release “With The Beatles.” Despite their name, none of the group was black. They intended their name as a tribute to the black culture they were influenced by, but some thought their name offensive or ridiculous.
